AHDI, in collaboration with the Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities (ZAPD) and the Ministry of Education, conducted a social and accessibility audit in five schools within Mungule Ward, Chibombo District from 13th to 17th October 2026. The audit aimed to assess the extent of accessibility challenges faced by learners with disabilities and identify specific needs for assistive devices and reasonable accommodations to promote inclusive education. The audit was guided by the Accessibility and Social Audit Framework aligned with the Persons with Disabilities Act No. 6 of 2012. It focused on five key areas: physical accessibility, communication accessibility, social inclusion, learning support, and gender and disability inclusion.
Overall, the project impact is Improved access to inclusive education and economic empowerment opportunities for girls and women with disabilities in Chibombo’s Mungule Ward. The activity reached out to a total of 133 people (53 females, 26 girls, 35 boys and 19 males). Of the 133 people reached, 35 boys, 26 girls, 12 females and 6 males have disabilities. The table below summaries the number of children, parents, teachers, and parents and teachers’ association chairpersons/members reached by accessibility and social audit in Mungule Chiefdom, Chibombo district.
